The soldier stands beside the cannon, and the two figures share the foreground in a balanced pairing. The spoked wooden wheel and the gun carriage form strong, angular shapes that anchor the lower half, while a leafy branch in the upper right softens the frame. The composition is quiet and documentary, with the artillery and the man beside it given equal weight.

Meaning & Symbolism

The design depicts the 22nd New York State Militia, a volunteer unit that served near Harpers Ferry, Virginia, in 1861 and 1862, the early stages of the American Civil War. Harpers Ferry sat at a strategically important crossing, and the field artillery in the picture points to the military role such positions required. The soldier beside the gun stands for the ordinary men who manned the batteries of the early war, and the image records that moment in the regiment's service.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker follows the outline of the artwork, so the sticker's edge is shaped by the soldier, the cannon and the wheel rather than a square border. The round wheel and the upright figure give the cut a distinctive silhouette, and the sepia field becomes the sticker's own shape. The format suits a scene built on a few clear forms, and the sticker holds them together as one image.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-026-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-43659114748294609058-alt-3.webp?v=1787749065
https://thestickerspace.com/products/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-026-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
