A soldier in a forage cap stands with his rifle in front of a field cannon on a spoked wooden carriage, and a whitewashed farm building sits in the background. The photograph is a single rectangular print, and the figure and the gun are the two points the eye returns to. A small printed mark, B919, appears within the image.

Meaning & Symbolism

The picture records a militia unit in the field during the first phase of the war, when volunteer and militia regiments were still taking shape. Harpers Ferry was a significant strategic point in the Virginia of 1861 and 1862, and the cannon and its carriage are the clearest markers of the military setting. The soldier's stance and the plain farm buildings give the scene a documentary character, the kind of record historians and collectors value for period military life.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is trimmed to the outline of its artwork, so the photograph sits on the surface with its edge defined by the cut rather than by a border. The warm sepia tones suit a flat surface where the soldier and the gun can be seen clearly, such as a notebook, a journal or a laptop lid.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-025-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-40042300530762195557-alt-3.webp?v=1787749030
https://thestickerspace.com/products/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-025-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
