A soldier in a cap stands at the centre of the frame, rifle and knapsack carried, with horse-drawn spoked-wheel wagons and a fallen log in the background. Trees and grass fill the ground around them, and the documentary layout places the figure within the wider setting of the camp.

Meaning & Symbolism

The photograph records a militia unit at a strategically important place early in the American Civil War. Harpers Ferry sat at a river crossing that changed hands several times during the conflict, and the catalogue designation in the title places the image in the 1861 to 1862 period. It stands as a primary source for the unit's presence there and for the everyday look of the field, a reminder of how ordinary soldiers were recorded during that war.

Shaping the Photograph to a Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is trimmed to the outline of the image, so the photograph sits on a surface as a clean, self-contained piece with its backing left intact for peeling. It suits a single documentary figure set in a working landscape: it is best studied up close on a folder, a journal cover or the inside of a notebook, where the sepia tones and the detail of the soldier can be read properly.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-015-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-30710320573978071145-alt-3.webp?v=1787748897
https://thestickerspace.com/products/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-015-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
