Five men in kepi caps stand or sit with rifles, a reclining soldier rests in the foreground, and canvas tents and rolled knapsacks and bedrolls fill the camp around them. The look is that of a 19th-century albumen photograph, so the figures and gear carry the weight of the scene.

Meaning & Symbolism

The scene documents a specific regiment at a specific place and time, the 22nd New York State Militia encamped near Harpers Ferry between 1861 and 1862. Harpers Ferry sat at the meeting point of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers and was a strategic prize for both sides, so the camp stands for the early Union presence in that contested region. The image is a record of ordinary soldiering: the tents, the packs and the rest between duties.

Where the Campaign Meets the Sticker

Kiss-cut to the outline of the camp, this decal keeps its sepia photograph intact on a glossy vinyl face. The scratch-resistant surface suits a flat spot indoors, such as a journal cover, a case or a desk panel, where the tents and soldiers can be seen up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-003-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-14506757489926384627-alt-3.webp?v=1787748695
https://thestickerspace.com/products/22d-new-york-state-militia-near-harpers-ferry-va-1861-ie1862-003-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
